What’s happening in December?

Our Title I Warwick Backpack Pantry Program has been selected to receive $1 from every 'Bloomin' 4 Good' bouquet sold during the month of December at the Stop & Shop located at 2470 Warwick Avenue. Let friends and family know!

We had a wonderful evening supporting local veterans during Operation Thankful, thank you to those that participated, we were able to donate about 200 holiday cards! Cards will be given to veterans along with a homemade gift this December.

Parents and students thoroughly enjoyed the Steamship Historical Society museum visit. Many had no idea this really cool place even existed in Warwick! “This place was awesome!” was overheard more than once.

I have been considering the idea of creating a Discover Warwick Passport Project. Families would pick up a mock passport for their child along with a booklet containing all sorts of wonderful places to visit within our city. This would take a lot of planning and outreach, if you’re willing to help me with this project, please reach out to me and let me know.

Report Card Resources

I will be available throughout December to provide information regarding accessing and understanding your child’s report card. Did you know that roughly 80% of Warwick parents and guardians do not check their child’s report card? We know this is not because they do not care about their child’s academic development, there must be barriers that prevent access. In response to this, I am providing in-person assistance as well as a comprehensive online resource to ensure all who would like to access their child’s report, are able to do so with ease.

In-person support will be available during the following school events:

Winter Wonderland @ Oakland Beach School, Friday, December 9th from 5 to 7 PM
Holiday Festival @ Scott School, Saturday, December 10th from 3 to 5 PM
Cookie Decorating @ Lippitt School, Thursday, December 15th from 6:30 to 7:30 PM
Winter Fest @ Hoxsie School, Friday, December 16th from 6 to 8 PM
Polar Express Movie Night @ Norwood School, Tuesday, December 20th from 6 - 8 PM

An online resource will be posted to your school website the week before report cards become available. Feel free to reach out to me personally with any questions or concerns.

Parenting Partner workshops continue! I will be hosting a Title I-wide, meaning all parents & guardians from each of the five schools are welcome, workshop Tuesday evenings from 6-7:30 PM at the Warwick Public Library starting January 10th and finishing on February 14th. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/0iBcKVzrzI8VYKolC4oAQ6hXXWQjURIblP30RmEcQ7q2GfUCwnA6_Y4ta61LCtWD8uGxaC6vcqyajRKlZaQ6W5dwAwric3vKu3MlrAozAyzrxi7k1NNdFW8wLGJ_0TNC1BCeO54xOJ8

What’s Happening in our Schools?

Coffee hours! Now that parents and families are allowed back into our schools we are bringing back regular opportunities for collaboration and conversation between school administrators and guardians! Each Title I school will host several of these opportunities at the school throughout the year. The dates for these events are on each school’s event calendar located on their webpage and through the WPS App. Some are called Coffee & Connection, others, Donuts With Grownups. If you still have not downloaded the Warwick Schools mobile app, you may do so through Google & Apple app stores.

Student work, events, and updates from within our Title I schools are regularly posted on social media. Stay connected on Facebook at Title I Warwick and on Instagram at warwickfamilyengagement

Important District Announcements

As parents, we often hear about iReady from our children and their teachers, and MyPath is utilized to support our child’s learning. But what is iReady? Why is MyPath so beneficial to our child’s learning growth and development? A comprehensive resource has been posted to the News sections on all Elementary and Middle school websites, you may also view the resource here.

What’s Happening in our community?

Community Toy Swap!

It's a Toy Swap, a great way to recycle barely used toys to share with other families during the holiday season. It is a chance to go shopping for free. Parents, please join us for this Adults-Only event! Bring in your clean, gently used toys (for ages 1-10) to exchange with other parents. Please bring in all parts and pieces to games, etc. *toy drop-offs will not be accepted*

More events at the library can be found here: Children's Events

There are so many events taking place locally this month! From tree lightings and festivals of lights, cookie decorating events and craft fairs, breakfast with Santa, or the Grinch if you prefer, and Winter Wonderlands! Even free movie nights at the GAMM! Facebook seems to be the best source for information on local events.

Storytime Spotlight!

The Story of Snow, The Science of Winter’s Wonder

This book is Non-Fiction and is a fun story about how snow is formed with great pictures of snow crystals under microscopes. You may watch a read-aloud of - The Story of Snow on YouTube, or borrow the book from the Family Center at your school. The back of the book also includes instructions on how to catch snowflakes, a photocopy of those can be viewed here. A fun follow-up activity would be to make geometric snowflakes, like the example below.

Wishing you and your family a wonderful Holiday Season and Winter Break!

Best regards,
